Steering Committee Meeting
January 10, 2006
Present: Mark Grelson, Dave Olson, Duane Kuss, Rita Hennen, Nadine Schnettler, Brigetta Klemek, Betty Johnson, Kay Cook, Larry Lahr
Agenda was approved as presented.
Minutes: Noted correction in spelling of "Maennerchor". Mark moved acceptance; Dave seconded; motion carried.
Treasurer Report: Report reflected a $17.43 deficit but City will carry us at this time. Nadine moved acceptance; Rita seconded; motion carried.
Steering Committee Issues:
1. 20/20 Library update - 20/20 will be supportive but unable to contribute at this time.
2. Chamber Expo and 20/20 free breakfast update - Rita sent information to Betty. They will target businesses and non-profits
3. Discuss and finalize reallocation of IF funds between the 7 matching fund projects - IF rule is only $5000 can be granted per request item. Public Use and Lookout Park zeroed out. Nadine will complete reports and send in by end of January.
4. Intern Update - Michael Scharenbroich will be with us from January 16 to May 5 for 20 hours per week mostly early morning or late afternoon/evening. Brigetta feels comfortable with his program but wants to do more hands on things now. Duane will work with him until Kay returns from vacation.
Project Updates
1. Rain Garden is in works: Brigetta suggested might be a 4H project
2. Land Use Plan: Larry reported consultant starting next Monday; land use map is next step
3. Design Standards: no report
4. Look out Park: off the chart as beyond our control
5. Trails & Paths: Tri City trail next meeting January 25
6. Website: status quo
7. Admin: status quo
Committee Updates
1. Arts & Culture: Mark reported CAPP needs energy & focus. There is meeting tomorrow with Leslie Schmacher from Arts Board. Duane asked about Sesquentinial involvement.
2. Land Use: No report
3. Design Standards: No report
4. Natural Resources: Kay has sent out emails but hasn't followed up with calls.
5. Social Action: Betty reported they are doing PR locally for Faith in Action; VISTA volunteer request didn't get. Dave Olson and Cheryl Brady are working together to provide Hispanics a translation of homes for sale and how to finance. They will meet 6:30 on Thursday at Senior Center.
6. Tourism: Securing signage for gateways and working on Chain of Lakes guide which is halted due to finances. The brewery is celebrating their 150th year along with city.
Fundraising Suggestions
1. Duane presented a short video designed to promote our efforts to non-profits.
1. Nadine will complete listing of non-profit contacts and we can note who we would like to contact.
2. There was a suggestion to sell Cold Spring 150 Years Old shirts, caps, golf balls, etc to tourists during the summer.
3. Larry said he would bring request for $500 administrative support to city council tonight.
New Business
Proposal to schedule 2 meetings monthly NEXT MEETING January 24 at 7:30AM
